SOME FAVORITE QUOTES ON WRITING These are from two of my favorite books for writers: The Elements of Style, by Strunk and White, and, If You Want to Write, by Brenda Ueland.

"When he delivered his oration on brevity to the class, he (William Strunk) leaned forward over his desk, grasped his coat lapels in his hands, and, in a husky, conspiratorial voice, said, "Rule Thirteen. Omit needless words! Omit needless words! Omit needless words!" --E.B.White, The Elements of Style.

"But the moment I read Van Gogh's letter I knew what art was, and the creative impulse. It is a feeling of love* and enthusiasm for something, and in a direct, simple, passionate and true way, you try to show this beauty in things to others. . ."

"*Or it can be a feeling of hate and abhorrence too. Though the work of the men who have worked from love seems to be greater than those who have worked from hate." --Brenda Ueland, If You Want To Write

And the following, also from Ms. Ueland, cracks me up!  Probably because it feels very familiar to me!: "It is hard to be carefree when you have many anxieties. But the more you have, the more necessary it is to feel carefree for a time, so that you will get some new ideas on how to deal with your anxieties." -Brenda Ueland, If You Want To Write

SPRING NEWSLETTER

Hello Readers:
First December got away from me, then January. Then February! And now March is almost gone!

Welcome to the official launch of my new *QUARTERLY* newsletter, which is as often as I ought to be popping into your inbox anyway. :)

Though it appears to finally be spring here, much of the past few months I have been snowed under, both outside my window (several record snowfalls) as well as inside my office where I write. I have been putting in some long days on my new novel, in between speaking engagements and book group visits. I've visited or chatted with over thirty book groups (nearly 200 women) and counting! Visiting with book groups as they discuss AROUND THE NEXT CORNER is truly one of the perks of my work.

I'm trying to get book #2 to you as soon as possible, and still enjoy the process and write a book that I'm proud of. Since I have been trying to write more full-time, I've been scaling back on promoting ATNC. I recently learned that the publisher is starting to get returns, which means some bookstores are taking ATNC off their shelves. Already! I had no idea the shelf life of a newly published book was so short. Where it is still on the shelf, I have you all to thank. Really! I am indebted to the woman-to-woman, mom-to-mom, reader-to-reader (and yes, dog-owner to dog-owner) network. Now more than ever I am flattered and honored by your recommendations of ATNC to other readers.

Thank you again for all your support. You really are my inspiration to keep writing.

Happy spring to all!

With warmest regards,
Elizabeth
